CM mocks at Omar for posting picture of 2010 agitation on Twitter | | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report srinagar, May 9: Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today mocked at former chief minister and working President of National Conference, Omar Abdullah for posting a picture of 2010 summer agitation on his twitter handle and relating the same with the incidents that took place after the recent Handwara issue. Talking to media persons here at the reopening of Durbar Move offices, Mehbooba said that Omar should not have posted the picture since it was of 2010 when he was the chief minister of the state. She in a sarcastic tone said that it is expected that former chief minister does not repeat this mistake vis-à-vis the ongoing 'controversy' over the establishment of Sainik Colony in the state. "Omar Abdullah himself was the chief minister of the state he knows that neither a chief minister nor a prime minister of the country can dilute the special status of Jammu and Kashmir. Since Omar is not a common man but has been a chief minister, I hope that he does not repeat his mistake today in which he has referred to some papers (about Sainik Colony)," Mehbooba said. It would be in place to mention here that Omar had recently posted a picture on Twitter which showed police men beating a civilian. He in his post had said that picture was of Handwara, but later it came out that the picture was of 2010 summer agitation when he was the chief minister. On the issue of Sainik Colony, Mehbooba said that the retired ex-servicemen of the state have been demanding land for residential colony. She said the request is pending with the government and till date no land has been allotted for establishing the Sainik Colony. "We have received a demand for the Sainik Colony from ex-servicemen who are state subjects. No ex-serviceman from outside the state has demanded land for Sainik Colony. However, till date the government has not allotted any for establishing the Sainik Colony," the chief minister said. She said that neither the chief minister of the state nor the Prime Minister of country has powers to dilute special status of the state. Mehbooba said that her father late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed took a difficult decision of aligning with Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) for government formation in the state. She said that same was done for safeguarding the identity of Jammu & Kashmir and not for causing any damage whatsoever. On the controversy regarding holding of National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) the chief minister said that Supreme Court of India has observed that there will be no interference in the special status of the state. She appealed the people not to believe in rumours and help the government in maintaining peace in the state. Before this Mehbooba upon her arrival at the Civil Secretariat, inspected the ceremonial parade and received Guard-of-Honour by a contingent of Jammu & Kashmir Police. Ministers, Chief Secretary, DGP, Administrative Secretaries, senior officers, besides other employees welcomed the Chief Minister. At the same time the Durbar Move offices that were closed in Jammu on April 29 and 30 resumed their working at the summer capital of the state. |
