Despite funds, PWD soft paddling on macadamization work in Jammu | | | Arun Singh ET Report jammu, May 9: Despite another Rs 60 crore released to Chief Engineer Public Works Department (Road and Building) Jammu for macadamization of roads in Jammu province, the pace of work is considerably slow on the ground as compared to Kashmir province as only 70% of work has been completed here so far. Sources told Early Times that an allocation of Rs 60 crore was released to Chief Engineer Public Works Department (Road and Building) Jammu for carrying out and expedite the macadamization work but the work was not speeded up by the authority concerned "Although PWD R&B Jammu, earlier received an amount of Rs 106 crore for the purpose so that the work of macadamization in Jammu city and its outskirts be completed, in the ending of April 2016 CE PWD Jammu received another Rs 60 crore of funds for the same but the snail pace in its execution has badly marred the purpose as having sufficient of funds the work is being carried out at snail's pace," they alleged. They further said that only 70% of work has been done on the ground so far while 30% of work is yet to be completed while in Kashmir region the macadamization work has been almost completed. Despite the fact that the entire funding is being made under Prime Minister Package for damaged road yet concerned department in Jammu is not able to expedite the works. "There are still number of such roads which are badly damaged and need immediate macadamization but the work has not been accelerated. Although there is no shortage of funds , lack of will power in the concerned department is curbing the progress of work," they sources maintained. |
