'Jammu people have to fend for themselves' | KuldipNayar bats for pre-1953 days | | Early Times Report jammu, May 9: It's highly abominable. It's disgusting. It's insulting. No one talks about the nationalist people of Jammu province and their aspirations. Even those who bat for minority rights in the rest of the country don't speak for the neglected and alienated people of Jammu province or the minorities like Hindu, Sikh and Buddhist. These secularists only talk about the majority population of Kashmir, especially Kashmiri Muslims, despite the fact that they have been ruling the state and exploiting the people of Jammu province and Ladakh region in a most brazen manner since 1947. Everyone in the establishment and almost all opinion-leaders and commentators consider people of Jammu province third grade subjects, who have no right to dignified life and who are only destined to suffer both at the hands of New Delhi and the New Delhi-backed Kashmiri leadership. Even the elected representatives from Jammu taunt the people of the province either by maintaining a stoic silence or by endorsing the Kashmiri ideology and the Kashmiri demands seeking separation from India, more and more funds from New Delhi and accommodation of Pakistan even in this part of J&K. Has BJP spoken a word against the Kashmiri opposition to the proposal of Sainik Colony in Kashmir? No. Has the BJP spoken a word in favour of National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET)? No. Has the BJP opposed the state government's beef killing policy? No. Has the BJP asked the state government to roll back Jaziya on chopper service to the Hindu religious shrines? No. Has BJP condemned the destruction of Army bunkers in Handwara? No. Has the BJP uttered a word for those soldiers against whom murder charges were slapped last month? No. Has the BJP even once talked about the Jammu's aspirations? Again, the answer is a big NO. The fact of the matter is that everyone in the New Delhi's establishment and outside it has developed hatred for the non-Muslim minorities in the state and wants Kashmir to be treated with kid gloves and also wants New Delhi to consider all of its demands. They are so perverted; they are so biased and they are so provocative and abusive as far as Jammu people and their aspirations are concerned. The latest example is what former editor of a national daily KuldipNayar said in Srinagar on Sunday by participating in a function. Speaking at a function held to commemorate the completion of first year of monthly Urdu magazine, Nayar claimed that "Jawahar Lal Nehru adopted Sheikh (Abdullah) and made him Prime Minister and put a seal on accession" and that "India may have acceded to Pakistan's demand for Kashmir had it helped New Delhi in the Indo-Sino war". He reportedly quoted his conversation with former Indian Prime Minister, Lal Bahadur Shastri. What he said only proved that not a single Congress leader, not even Shastri, considered Kashmir a part of India. Nayar, who migrated to India from Sialkot in 1947 to save his life, further claimed that had "Pakistan waited in 1947, it would have got Kashmir" and that Pakistan "spoiled everything by sending troops to Kashmir". It appears he migrated to India only to plead the Pakistani cause and spit venom on the majority Hindu community. Not just this, Nayarsaid that "gun is no solution to Kashmir issue because India has more guns than Kashmir and it would be again suppressed". He said "Kashmir should demand more rights". "Kashmiris should demand the pre-1953 position wherein India has jurisdiction over Defence, Communication and Foreign Affairs only". "Accession cannot be changed. Now let us go back to 1947 and talk about it. When Sheikh Abdullah was made Prime Minister he was given everything except Defence, Communication and Foreign Policy. Let's demand back everything except these three things," he, in fact, said. "Jammu and Kashmir is the only state in sub-continent where secularism is alive. I think from here we can send a message to whole sub-continent that even if 96 percent Muslims live here still Hindus and Muslims can live together," he further said. He didn't say Jammu is the only region where secularism is alive. He referred to the whole of the state ignoring the fact Kashmir is one-religion region and Jammu has mixed population with Hindus constituting more than 70 per cent of the region's population and others leading a dignified life. It is clear from what Nayar said that he belongs to that school of thought that is rabidly anti-Hindu, fundamentally pro-Kashmiri movement and Pakistan. The point is that India has many Nayars, who bat for an autonomous status for Kashmir and for a system that crushes the minorities and helps fanatics establish theocratic and oppressive rule in the state. The people of Jammu province must stand up and fight against Nayar and his ilk failing which they will become slaves for all the times to come. |
