Spurious I/V fluid: Dir Health asks hospitals to be cautious | | | Sumit Sharma

Jammu, May 9: The J&K Medical Supply Corporation(JKMSC) has supplied the infected intravenous fluids to the hospitals forcing the Directorate of the Health to shot a letter to all the Medical Superintendents and Block Medical Officers of the hospitals in Jammu region to maintain the record of I/V fluids, drip sets and patients properly as I/V fluids have adverse reactions. As per communiqué to CMOs of hospitals in Jammu division by Directorate of Health Services Jammu Division having No DHJ/42-54 having subject Adverse reaction with I/V fluids "Medical Superintendent, Govt. Hospital Gandhi Nagar, Jammu vide his letter No. GNH/J/208-10 Dated. 6.05.2016 has reported adverse reactions with I/V fluids supplied recently by JKMSCL. Such reactions have also been reported from Govt. Medical College Jammu. As such, you are directed to issue instructions to all the Medical Superintendents and Block Medical Officers to maintain the record of l/V fluids, Drip sets and patients properly as per the proforma enclosed and in case of any eventuality take all necessary steps and report to this office immediately". The directions were issued at a time when owing to Summer season large number of patients are admitted in the hospitals due to Diarrhoea, Dysentery and food poisoning. Meanwhile authoritative sources when contacted said that the advisory has been issued to keep check on medicines rather than to put the issue under carpet, adding, no medicines are allowed to be administered to patients without confirmation from accredited labs. He further said that JKMSCL was established with the sole aim to procure the medicines from e tendering after snatching the power of procuring from respective HODs and efforts are on to make the system streamline. |
