Early Times Report

JAMMU, May 9: National Conference (NC) has come to a severe criticism for opposing the establishment of Sainik Colony in Valley. The role of the party has been termed as anti national by the nationalistic and patriotic forces in the State.
These organizations while taking serious exception to NC's role over the issue and outburst of former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in this regard said that party was trying to sow the seeds of discontent among the people as establishment of Sainik Colony in Valley is within the parameters of the Constitution of the State as well as Indian Constitution.
These leaders said how NC is opposing such a colony in Valley one already one such colony has been established in Jammu and is the demand of the Party in consonance with the NC's Naya Kashmir and secular charter which it boosts party stands for.
Commenting on Omar Abdullah's statement in this regard leaders of various Hindu organizations including Shiv Sena, Jammu Peoples Front, Sangram Sena etc said that how NC is opposed to establishment of such a colony in Valley when thousands of people from the State of J&K are serving or have served the Indian army and they included Muslims from the State too. Opposing such a colony in Kashmir shows that NC was toeing the Hurriyat line, said Satish Poonchi president JPF.
He said it is not for the first time but NC has always raked up controversial issues right from 1947. The Party opposed settlement of West Pak refugees in the State and they have been denied citizenship rights for last 67 years which is not only injustice but violation of human rights also.
``Why is NC opposed to establishment of such a colony. Is it afraid of nationalist people living in Valley. Can't a Sainik Colony be established in Valley were the Muslims of the State, members of Gujjar community, Kashmiri Pandits, members of Sikh community and Dogras who served in Indian army or are serving can reside there.
Same were the views of Kashmiri Pandit Conference (KPC) chief, Kundan Kashmiri who said that NC was trying to exploit the regional sentiments of people in Valley by raking up emotive issues. There is no harm in establishment of Sainik Colony in Valley as the people who served the Indian army from the State or who are still serving can be settled there and the opposition by NC is of no meaning.
The KPC leader asked NC not to mislead the people in the Valley any more as its policies have sown the seeds of present discontent in the State
Social activist and member Backward Area Development Society, Kewal Sharma said that NC was misleading the people on the issue and with its statement it has proved that Party has no feeling for the people of Jammu as sizeable number of the people from this region are serving in Indian army and NC was against the rights of these people, he added.
