Jammu, May 9: A fresh miscellaneous petition was today filed in the high court, seeking appropriate directions to the Chief Secretary, GAD Secretary and Law secretary to initiate the process for appointment of Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) and Information Commissioner (IC) under J&K Right to Information Act, 2009. The petitioner submitted that after the government set up state information commission under J&K RTI Act, 2009, G R Sufi was appointed as the founder CIC and Dr S K Sharma and Nazir Ahmed were appointed as ICs. While Sharma completed his term in October, 2015, Sufi demitted office on February 29, 2016. The commission was presently being run by IC Nazir Ahmed. He submitted that it was incumbent upon the government to initiate the process of appointment of CIC and IC prior to the completion of their terms but till date no process had not been kick-started as a result of which the information watch dog had been rendered headless and almost defunct. The petitioner has sought appropriate directions to the chief secretary, GAD secretary and law secretary to initiate the process for appointment of CIC and IC. (JNF) |
