NC holds demonstrations against water paucity | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 23: National Conference on Monday staged a massive dharna outside the Public Health Engineering headquarters to lodge strong protest against erratic supply of drinking water and condemned the PDP-BJP coalition government for taking sadistic pleasure in the woes of people by denying them basics, especially during the ongoing scorching summer months. "The government has failed on all fronts and lack of political will and direction has made the administration rudderless, as a result of which governance is at its lowest ebb", the NC leaders Chander Mohan Sharma and Dharamveer Singh Jamwal said and cautioned the Divisional Administration especially service-providing departments to realize their responsibilities and ensure basic services to the people. Addressing the protesters, District National Conference President Jammu Urban Dharamvir Singh Jamwal reiterated that National Conference cannot remain a mute spectator to the agonies of the people and shall knock every door to seek redressal of their problems. Jamwal expressed anguish over shortage of water in various places across the district and urged the Divisional Administration to constitute a team to review the situation and suggest corrective measures so that the people get some respite. He expressed anguish over the lackadaisical approach of the coalition partners, saying that they were behaving like ostrich and caring two hoots for the people. Expressing solidarity with the agitating workers of the striking PHE Department, Provincial Vice President Chander Mohan Sharma said that had the government kept its promises and regularised the eligible need, daily wage, casual and other segments of the workers, such a situation would not have taken place. He said that disruption in the water supply is primarily because of the strike of workers. Sharma, however, urged the PHE employees to ensure that people at large do not suffer. He also sought tanker services for the areas which have been badly hit by the erratic water supply. Provincial Vice Presidents Mohammed Ayub Malik besides Ch Haroon and Vice Chairpersons of SC and OBC Cells of the party Vijay Lochan and Abdul Gani Teli also addressed the protesters and warned that if there is no improvement in the supply of drinking water, the party will be forced to take to streets. |
