Mehbooba asks traders to stay away from separatists | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, May 23: A day after Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti asked the stakeholders to ensure that peace prevails in Kashmir so that tourists arrival is not hit and battered economy is put back on track, militants carried twin attacks in Srinagar on Monday killing three policemen. The Chief Minister had sought support in maintaining peace at all costs, she had said state's tourism and business fraternity have to suffer the brunt when atmosphere of peace is disturbed in the Valley. An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "It seems Mehbooba is aware about the fact that efforts are being made to disturb the peace in the Valley as tourist arrival has increased manifold. It seems separatists and militants have ganged up to vitiate the peaceful atmosphere in Kashmir." He said, "Separatists are trying to take the business community in loop and are seeking their support to launch an agitation against the setting up of separate colonies for Kashmiri Pandits in the Valley but businessmen have reportedly asked separatists not to disturb the tourist season by giving unnecessary shutdown and chalo calls." It's in place to mention here that Chief Minister who met many delegations on Sunday in Srinagar minced no words to make it clear to the traders and the business community not to support any "misadventures" and let the peace prevail as it would help them overcome the losses they have faced since floods inundated Kashmir in 2014. A police official while talking to Early Times said, "Militants are on the run as we are not giving any space to them. Militants attacking policemen in Srinagar city is worrisome but we will not allow them to succeed in their designs. Jammu and Kashmir Police and other security agencies are committed to maintain peace so that tourism sector flourishes." Insiders revealed that "Separatists getting cold shouldered response from the businessmen and transporters has frustrated them and they have conveyed it to their handlers sitting across the Line of Control (LoC). Now the militant handlers are building pressure are on the militants to carry out strikes in sensitive areas so that peace is disturbed and tourists are terrified." Sources said, "Security around the tourists spots has been beefed up and security agencies have been put on alert to avoid any untoward incident. We know militants are desperate and can go to any extent but are well equipped to thwart any such attacks and threats." "Kashmir has been witnessing senseless violence for the past 25-years and bloodshed has not yielded anything. These gun-totting youth need to bear in mind that gun has not brought anything except destruction and graveyards." He said, "Militants seem to be desperate to make their presence felt. Such acts in the midst of tourist season can cripple the Kashmir economy." |
