Probe ordered into death of pregnant woman at DH Shopian | | | Saahil Suhail
Anantnag, May 23: District administration Shopian has ordered inquiry into the death of a pregnant woman who died at district hospital allegedly due to the sudden power breakdown in the hospital that resulted into her huge blood loss. Shafeeqa wife of Sabeel Ahmad was admitted in the hospital on Friday, the date given to her by the doctors for surgery. After all the necessary tests conducted on woman doctors agreed to conduct surgery on her. "As the surgery was on, there was a sudden power breakdown in the hospital. The doctor who was conducting surgery repeatedly called the electrician for about ten minutes for starting generator but he did not attend his phone. "When the electrician arrived doctor who had somehow managed to finish the surgery scolded him and even abused him for not responding to his call," brother in law of the deceased woman told Early Times. He said that the two even entered into a verbal duel during which the electrician told him that he is not supposed to start the generator only on the directions of every official posted in the hospital. "As they entered into heated exchange patient had already been referred to the ward. But after some time she started bleeding. The Para-medics on duty in the ward called the doctor over phone who asked them to refer her to Lal Ded Hospital. And as we reached Lal Ded Hospital doctor who had conducted surgery was waiting for us there. But she continued to bleed leading to her death finally," family members said. They alleged that the power shutdown in the theater and failure of the officials to start the power generator was the only reason for the death of the patient. The family members later registered complaint with the Deputy Commissioner Shopian Ghulam Ahmad Dar who ordered inquiry into the incident. "DC has ordered inquiry into the incident asking te inquiry team to submit the report within three days. He has assured us that any body found guilty during the probe will not be spared," family members said. Medical Superintendent, District Hospital Shopian, however, denied the allegations saying there was no deliberate delay in starting the generator. "When the power supply suddenly goes off it always takes few minutes to start the generator. But there was no deliberate delay. Since the matter is under inquiry I can't comment further," Medical Superintend said. |
