Poonch, May 23: Classes from VI to XII are allegedly being run from a single room in Governmnet Higher Secondary School, Ghani, Mendhar. Official sources said Government High School, Ghani, was upgraded to Higher Secondary school some time ago, but the building was not modified to accommodate extra students. The present building has only five rooms. Two were in total dilapidated condition while one room each was meant for store and staff. The remaining room houses classes from VI to XII. Students were also suffering for want of laboratory, library and other facilities in the school. In 2009. an amount of Rs 22 Lakh was sanctioned for the school to construct new building and Rs 4.75 lakh were expended on the construction of its plinth. Sources said the construction work could not be carried further as the chairman of Panchayat of Lower Ghani, Ab Khaliq objected and did not allow to continue the construction of the building. On the intervention of locals, a proposal was made to construct the building at some nearby place but that land too belonged to forest department, sources said, adding students were being made to suffer for no fault of theirs. When contacted, District Development Commissioner, Poonch, H S Malik said the school building would be constructed where it was proposed earlier and any one found sabotaging the move would be punished according to law.
