Jaish Commander, accomplice killed in Maharaja Bazar encounter | | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report SRINAGAR, May 23: In a late night development two militants got killed in a brief encounter with police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel in the Maharaja Bazar area. Reports said that the encounter took place when police and CRPF spotted the movement of at least two militants in the Maharaja Bazaar area. After being challenged by the police and CRPF personnel the militants fired back leading to a brief encounter. The fire was retaliated and in the gunfight two militants believed to having allegiance with Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) were killed. Reports said that a Jaish commander identified as Saifullah is one among the killed. However, the same is not confirmed as yet. There are also reports that one militant has been arrested as well. The operation is over and more details would emerge as and when the picture becomes clear. Earlier in the day three policemen were killed in separate shootouts in the city. While two cops were killed near Government High School Zadibal the third one was killed in the Tengpora-Batmaloo area. Following the firing incidents an alert was sounded in the city and it culminated with the Maharaja Bazar encounter late in the night. |
