Jammu University VC in dock; Sack him, demand BJP ministers | CM Mehbooba asks Education Minister to act | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 23: Taking serious note of dictatorial and anti-students attitude of Jammu University Vice-Chancellor Prof R D Sharma, the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has directed the Education Minister Naeem Akhtar to take action against the VC. The direction was issued after all the BJP ministers, during State Cabinet meeting at Srinagar today, complained against Prof R D Sharma and demanded his immediate removal as the Vice-Chancellor of Jammu University. Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh and Industries Minister Chander Parkash Ganga led the attack on R D Sharma, who thereafter came under severe criticism of all the other BJP minister. They accused the VC of being anti-student, who was stifling the democratic voice in the university campus by not allowing them to organize any activity. The BJP ministers recalled how the Vice-Chancellor was adopting a hostile attitude towards all the student organization. They particularly mentioned about the incident when the University had not allowed the ABVP to organize even a blood donation camp in the campus thus forcing the students to donate blood on the roadside in front of the university. It may be recalled that Speaker J&K Legislative Assembly Kavinder Gupta was chief guest in that blood donation camp and several senior BJP leaders and ABVP activists had joined the event. Not only the State unit of BJP but the party high command had also taken serious notice of that incident. Ganga and Nirmal Singh were soon joined by other BJP ministers in attacking R D Sharma and accusing him of being anti-student, anti-institution and anti to a particular party as well as its supporters. The BJP ministers said that such a person as Vice-Chancellor of a university was not good for the students as well as the institution and hence he must be removed as early as possible. Taking cognizance of the BJP ministers' serious charges against the Vice-Chancellor, the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti asked the Minister of Education Naeem Akhtar to inquire into the matter and take necessary action against the erring VC. The CM also assured the BJP ministers that R D Sharma would not be allowed to victimize any student as well as the organization and, if needed, he would be removed.
