Why Mehbooba has lost her cool? | | | It is for the first time since she took over as Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir that Mehbooba lost her cool and berated Kashmiri separatists for questioning her alliance with the BJP. She went on the extent of saying that if it was warranted she would forge the alliance 1,000 times in the interest of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Earlier she displayed her mind by surrendering before separatists when she changed the industrial policy that had envisaged leasing out land to non local for setting up industries in the state. Had it been allowed it would have increased job avenues and allowed the state of Jammu and Kashmir to increase industrial output. Another surrender was in the shape of her silence on the setting up of a sainik colony as the separatists feared that non-state subjects would settle there and lead to change in the demographical character of the state. Even she has not taken any bold step while implementing the central Government aided rehabilitation and return of Pandits policy because separatists have opposed their resettlement in separate colonies and clusters. Though she said that these colonies and clusters were to be simply a transit camps still the separatists wanted to dictate their terms. And when Mehbooba frowned on separatists telling them who were they to question her decision to forge an alliance with the BJP it shows that Mehbooba was sure of her success in the Anantnag by poll. Had she any inkling of her defeat she would not have berated the separatists because after losing power she had to seek support from separatists for the survival of the PDP or whatever may have been the reason. By showing her mettle she seems to be sure of her success in the by-election which alone could allow her to head the coalition Government. Her success should have convinced the opposition NC and the Congress that Mehbooba is a force to reckon with despite her alliance with the BJP. Well as part of strategy she did not allow the BJP leaders to join the pre-poll campaign because she knew that once BJP leaders appeared on the scene it would be like a red rag to the bull. And the first sign of defeat of the NC was voiced by none other than Farooq Abdullah when he expressed fears over the impartiality of the poll. Well credit should be given to Mehbooba for ensuring incident free election notwithstanding some clashes in the interior of the constituency. Another credit is that despite whispering campaign 34 per cent voters polled the votes. This whispering campaign had been launched by the separatists when they know that if they openly campaign against poll participation people may not respond as they had not done in previous elections including the 2014 Assembly poll and 2015 Lok Sabha election when Kashmir valley set a new record on polling percentage. This too has emboldened Mahbooba who has decided to take on the separatists. Now that she may lead the coalition Government again she has to be more assertive than she had remained during the last three months. Let she again alter the industrial policy and lease out land to some prominent non-state subject industrialists who were ready to set up units in the state which would resolve the problem of unemployment and increase industrial production. There has been no investment from either the Government side or from the private sector during the last 20 years and this way Mehbooba has got a chance to reshape the industrial policy. She needs to take care of the ongoing energy crisis and if she is able to resolve it she would prove a successful chief Minister. |
