Cong 'hatching conspiracy to break Jammu province' | A step towards Greater Kashmir? | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 24: The so-called Indian Nation Congress (INC), which created mess in Jammu and Kashmir by involving the otherwise irrelevant Sheikh Abdullah in the accession process and incorporating separatist and communal Article 370 in the Indian Constitution to create an impression the world over that the state was not an integral part of India to the extent other states of the Union were, has been hatching one conspiracy after another to break Jammu province and help the votaries of Greater Muslim Kashmir fulfill their 70-year-old dream. Between May 25 and June 23, the Congress took two steps in the Assembly aimed at dividing Jammu province on religious lines like the Congress did in the country pre-August 15, 1947 to help Jinnah and his Muslim League create out of India Muslim Pakistan. On the eve of the budget session of the State Legislature, Congress MLA from Inderwal GM Saroori submitted a resolution to the Speaker’s office and the resolution demanded setting up of autonomous hill council development in the erstwhile Doda district on the model of Leh autonomous hill development council. Ironically, the Speaker's office accepted it for discussion. Saroori said Doda, Ramban and Kishtwar districts were underdeveloped and that establishment of an autonomous hill council for the area was imperative. He didn't say that it was the state government (of which he also remained part for years) and the local lawmakers were responsible for the neglect of the erstwhile Doda district. Instead of denouncing the powers-that-be and the local lawmakers, Saroori through his resolution pitched for the division of Jammu province. On Thursday, Congress MLA from Banihal Vikar Rasool went several steps further and directly asked the state government to segregate Banihal area from Jammu province and merge it with Kashmir. Charging that "Muslim majority areas of Jammu province are facing inequality and injustice with regards to the development, Rasool said: "PDP has sold the expectations of Jammu Muslims for power share in the state. Attach his constituency with Kashmir province". No one would believe that Rasool made this atrocious demand on his own or without taking the party leadership into confidence. There are reasons to believe that he made this highly communal demand after seeking concurrence of the high command. That the Congress had not taken action against Saroori further establishes that the Congress is playing the role of Muslim League in the state. It is time for the Jammu-based Congress leadership to make its stand clear on the unity and integrity of Jammu province failing which it shall be presumed that it was with Saroori, Rasool and the ilk. |
