EPTWS stages protest, demands settlement of pending issues | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 24: In protest against alleged atrocities of the department on the hapless tenants, the Evacuees Property Tenants Welfare Society (EPTWS) staged a demonstration here today in front of EP and Custodian Department office at Wazarat Road. Led by President EPTWS Inder Mohinder Tar Singh, hundreds of protestors assembled in front of EP and Custodian Department office and shouted anti-department slogans. While addressing the gathering Tar Singh explained how poor hapless tenants are suffering for the last four generations due to the wrong policies of the department. He said that Respective governments had constituted committees from time to time to look into the matters relating to EP Tenants and various Revenue Ministers had assured to settle our issues within stipulated period but unfortunately our grievances remain unresolved. Among us there is a large number of the PoK refugees of 1947, 1965 and 1971 who were displaced during three wars with Pakistan; they genuinely deserve the "proprietary rights" on these houses and land which they are maintaining for the last over three to four generations. Tar Singh demanded that the department should carry out maintenance of the premises whose allottees are unable to maintain the same due to their weak financial condition. As far as "tenancy transfer cases" are concerned in case of death of an allottee, tenancy may be transferred to the next kin without any fee in a routine manner. As regards the other cases the occupant may be allotted the premises after obtaining a nominal fee of Rs 15000 and Rs 30000 for residential and commercial premises respectively. |
