Protest over proposed Sainik Colonies, several hurt

Kupwara , Jun 24 : Dozens of people, including a school girl and police personnel, were injured during clashes between youth and forces in north Kashmir's Kupwara district.As soon as the Friday prayers ended in the Markazi Jamia Masjid, Kupwara, the youth took to streets and staged protest against setting up of proposed Sainik Colonies. They marched from the Jamia Masjid to main chowk. However, police fired tear smoke shells to disperse the youth who stoned them. Eyewitnesses said several people, including a school girl and cops, were injured during the clashes. BMO, Kupwara, Dr Fareed Ahmad said at least 15 civilians received injuries during the clashes who were treated in the hospital. SP, Kupwara, Aijaz Ahmad said some cops were also wounded.
