Srinagar, June 24: Minster for R&B, today informed the House that several steps have been taken to overcome the problem of congestion on roads in Jammu, particularly in West constituency. Replying to a question by MLA , the Minister said a flyover from Bikram Chowk to Convent Crossing is under construction with Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) and is at advanced stage of completion. The Minister said that Government has a proposal for construction of bypass (Ring Road) from Raya Morh to Bantalab by National Highway Authority of India (NHAI). He said that with the construction of this ring road, the Poonch-Rajouri bound heavy vehicles would be diverted through this bypass instead of entering Jammu city. He said that 312.67 kms of road length have been macadamized in Jammu city, which includes 29.31 kms of Jammu West Constituency during last financial year. Minister informed that widening of roads in Jammu City is not an approved scheme at present. However, "Semi-ring road in Jammu has been approved under Prime Minister's Development Package (TAMIER) for an amount of Rs 1400 crore", he added. The Minister further informed that construction of flyovers, from Jewel Chowk to Talab Tillu and Amphalla to Janipur couldn't be taken up for execution as the projects aren't approved under any programme or scheme at present. |
