Jammu, July 5: The Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has come up with a pilot project to make Jammu city neat, clean and beautiful. The first phase of this pilot project, Integrated & Sustainable Solid Management Project, got kickstarted today. Talking to media, C. Srinivasan, Project Director and Consultant, said the prestigious project has been named Swachh Jammu Mission-2018 to make Jammu, a neat and clean city. In the first phase during the next 10 days, about 439 volunteers selected by the JMC will collect data from every household within the municipal limits of the Jammu Municipal Corporation. During this survey, information like number of households, shops, saloons, meat shops, vegetable shops, general stores will be collected. After compilation of the collected data, a Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be prepared following which the pilot project will be implemented in the city. "The volunteers will collect garbage from every house in JMC area twice a day in a tri-cycle. To make the source segregation more effective, we will request people to put inorganic and organic waste in separate bins. After that further segregation will be done and finally the waste will be brought to the integrated solid and liquid resource management centre. Jammu Municipal Corporation has started Solid & Liquid Resource Management (SLRM) project. After six days' classroom training, Commissioner Mandeep Kaur (IAS) today flagged off the volunteers for ten-day survey training in their respective wards. The training programme was conducted by C. Srinivasan, Project consultant, Indian Green Service, the resource person for SLRM project from the Ministry of Urban Development, Govt. of India. The survey team, assisted by sanitary inspectors and sanitary supervisors, will conduct a comprehensive survey and collect details of all households, commercial establishments. Commissioner, along with Joint Commissioner (Adm) R.S. Jamwal, Assistant Commissioner (Revenue) Subah Mehta (Nodal Officer), Health Officer Dr. Saleem Khan, Municipal Veterinary Officer Dr. Zaffar Iqbal, and other staff members harvested two beds of compost prepared from dry leaves, twigs and garden waste. The beds were prepared in April at Gandhi Nagar Floriculture Park as part of scientific management of garden waste through composting as suggested in Solid & Liquid Resource Management. The Power Grid Corporation appreciated the work of JMC and purchased the first compost bed by paying Rs. 30000 for the compost. |
