File of dental surgeons gathers dust in Finance deptt | | | Arun Singh Early Times Report Jammu, July 5: After a long gap of eight years, the initiative of creation of 500 posts for the unemployed Bachelor Dental Surgeons (BDS) which was taken by the government has caught in red- tapism as the file is gathering dust in Finance Department for its concurrence. Sources told Early Times that the initiative was taken by Governor NN Vohra early this year during governor rule in the State who after taking cognizance of the plights of the thousands of unemployed graduate dental surgeons had directed the concerned department to prepare a proposal of creation of 500 posts. Accordingly the proposal was made by the Health Department and subsequently was sent to the Finance Department for its concurrence but the file is lying with the department and awaiting its nod, sources informed. "It was year of 2008 when last time the posts for dental surgeon were advertised by the government but till then it failed to advertise more posts resulting the number of unemployed BDS continued to grow every year," they maintained further adding that the apathetic attitude of the successive government to accommodate the swelling number of unemployed Dental Surgeon has put them into great lurch as many of them are getting over age. "Moreover, they had to lodge a series of protests in order to project their demands of government job but government remained unconcerned towards them and continued to delay in resolving their issues. Now after the initiative of Governor to absorb them in government services the bureaucracy has been creating hurdles by not clearing file so that further process could be started", they said. "Every year around 300 seats are filled for the training of Bachelor of Dental Surgery and same numbers of students pass out after undergoing rigorous training in the institutions but they are meted out with step motherly treatment from the state government by not absorbing them in jobs and had to face frustration," they alleged. They further said that there are umpteen numbers of such qualified BDS which are without job for the last eight years. Although like MBBS doctors, these BDS doctors too have to qualify the entrance test which is conducted by Competent Authority of Board of Professional Entrance Examination (BOPEE) and subsequently qualified aspirants are allotted colleges as per merits. The students who got private seats had to bear expense of nearly Rs 3 lakh every year including fee and study material for five years, but in vain. Despite knowing that fact that there is great dearth of doctors in the Primary Health Centers across the state where this lot can be absorbed so that they can provide succor to the patients having dental ailments and can contributing a lot for making the healthy society. |
