Police books PDP leader for beating ambulance driver
7/5/2016 11:14:32 PM
Early Times Report

Srinagar, July 5: Police has filed an FIR against the Peoples Democratic Party leader and defeated candidate from Kangan constituency Bashir Ahmed Mir for allegedly beating up an ambulance driver.
Witnesses said the incident occurred on Monday at a government hospital in Kangan area of Ganderbal when the PDP leader asked the government ambulance to drop a patient known to the former at a village in the district.
The ambulance driver, however, pleaded that the bridge which connects to the village was meant for light vehicles whereas the ambulance he drives was a heavy vehicle. "Sir if you could ask some mini bus ambulance to ferry your patient," the driver pleaded.
This infuriated the PDP leader who, as per witnesses, started beating the driver ruthlessly. "How dare to tell me what to do and what not to… Have I to go by your dictations or you have to go by mine?" the PDP leader said.
Sources said though initially the police was reluctant to file a complaint against the "influential politician from the ruling party," the public resentment finally forced police to file the case.
The people complained before Kangan police that the accused politician was a "habitual offender who keeps abusing people left right and center."
"He has become a Kakar Khan of Kangan, how can you leave him go scot free?" the people asked.
Police sources confirmed that following public pressure, the case was filed vide number no 62/2016 under section 353 RPC at Police Station Kangan.
The accused politician however refuted the charges. "I swear I have not misbehaved with anyone. I am a civilized man who bagged some 25,000 votes in previous elections, how can I do such a thing," Mir told Early Times.
Mir said it was a conspiracy to defame him. "Let police conduct the inquiry and things will get clear.
If I will be found guilty, let me be punished," he said.
