Chess workshops, competition conclude at Tangdhar | | | Early Times Report Tangdhar, July 05: A three-day Chess workshop-cum- competition, organized under the aegis of Shakti Vijay Brigade in partnership with All J&K Chess Association, concluded with the holding of valedictory function at border area of Tangdhar in Kashmir. Earlier, the workshops and coaching took place at Kandi, Tadd and Chinar 9 Jawan Club, Tithwal wherein around 2500 young boys and girls were imparted basic tips about the game. Later, 54 students selected from the workshops were pitted against each other in six different groups on the concluding. At the end, 18 victorious students from various groups were awarded prizes, certificates and medals. Master Faizan Parvaiz, Abhay Jasrotia, Mohd Ajmal Khan and Master Tanveer Ahmed emerged winners in various boys' categories while Saiba Khan, Khalida Bano and Asima Imtiyaz bagged top spot amongst girls. Speaking to the gathering, president of the Association, Atul Kumar Gupta thanked Commanding Officer 12 Maratha LI, Col. Vinay Jasrotia for conceiving and organizing this mega event. He highlighted the fact that chess was most popular sport in the world after football being played in more than 180 countries. Deputy Commander, Shakti Vijay Brigade, Col Sunil Kumar Saul expressed his happiness over the enthusiasm shown by students, especially the youth, in the chess workshop and emphasized its role protecting the youth from various ills by diverting young impressionable minds towards sports. Qazi and ex Principal, Abdul Hameed on behalf of people of Tangdhar (Karnah) expressed gratitude and applauded the efforts of the Association and Army particularly 12 Maratha for providing a viable platform to the youth to hone their skills for participation at the state and national level chess tournaments. Also present on the final day function were local Tehsildar, Sarpanches, Panches and various other local civil servants as also vice president of the Association, Baldev Raj and press secretary, Kuljeet Singh Jamwal. The three day workshop was formally concluded with the Iftar party hosted by the Shakti Vijay Brigade for all the participants and guests for the occasion. |
