Early Times Report
KATHUA, July 11: Pollution Control Board Kathua today organised a public hearing for the establishment and extension of cement plant that will be established by R Kay C Grinding private Limited at Hatli Morh Kathua.
Numbers of people were called including ADDC Kathua and Environmental scientists on the occasion.
During the public hearing, Anti- Pollution Movement, APM an NGO with collaboration of people hailing from surrounding area of projected venue staged huge protest demonstration against PCB/ Kathua district administration and called the public hearing as eye wash than collecting views of general public.
The protesters forbade establishing such unit on the basis that children of surrounding areas are already being gripped under an unknown disease due to pollution in Hatli Morh area.
Pertinently RKC grinding industries always falls in red category industries and now is trying to establishment cement plant unit while violating norms. The industry must have more than 10 kanal land but it has merely 7 kanals land and likely to establish in public place.
Varinder Kumar, ID Khajuria & Balbinder Singh members APM expressed surprise on the functioning of Pollution Control Board kathua and said that the Public hearing was just eye wash as the board had not called anyone in the area, NGOs or sufferers on their own. They alleged that only limited people were called to attend the hearing with the aim to issue NoC to RK Grinding unit.
The protesters said the industry already falls in red category so there was no purpose to organise hearing for the extension of its working. They demanded strict action against PCB. They said an order was issued to shift red categories industries from localities but PCB organised hearing to issue NoC that was noting than on irony.
Parveen Koshar, elected member of Panchayat body also expressed resentment and said people are already suffering due to noise and air pollution. She said a school and minors would suffer lot so the industry must not be established in her panchyat area. Dr Yash Paul, Environmental Scientist also discarded the possibility of establishment of cement plant in Hatli morh and informed that the area already falls under air/chemical pollution as Air Monitoring Station shows RSPM reading 120-150 mu/cubic meter much more than normal reading. The scientist said establishment of another industry would invite Asthma, skin and other communicative disease in the people living in surrounding areas.
ADDC Kathua Dr Manmohan Singh present as an observer in Public hearing informed that the report will be sent to higher authority for consideration. He ensured that no unit will be established while harming environment.
