Srinagar, July 11: Seeking restraint by security forces while dealing with demonstrators here, former chief minister Omar Abdullah has demanded proper medical treatment to those who were injured in violence since Saturday last in the valley. Asking Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to ensure that security forces exercise maximum restraint while dealing with protesters, he said until this was done cycle of violence would not stop. Taking to micro blogging site Twitter, Omar said: "HM@rajnathsingh ji spoke to me earlier today. I told him that until security forces exercise maximum restraint & stop killing protestors "this vicious cycle of violence would not stop. Only after the lethal use of force ends can we begin to pull the valley back from the abyss", he tweeted. He said, "For our part @JKNC_ will play whatever role is required to help normalise the situation. But onus lies on state & central governments". "In the mean time proper medical treatment to the injured must be ensured & hospitals adequately stocked with all necessary supplies", he said. Omar, in his tweet last night, asserted that his party was ready to contribute towards maintaining peace in the valley provided Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti needs to lead from the front. His comments come hours after PDP-BJP coalition government appealed to mainstream political parties and separatist organisations, including both the factions of Hurriyat Conference (HC), to support the state government in restoring peace and save lives of youth in the Valley. "Dear @MehboobaMufti We in @JKNC_ are always ready to contribute towards maintaining peace but you must take the lead & show the way," he wrote on micro-blogging site twitter. Asking Mehbooba to accept responsibility, for letting things get to this point, he said this is the time to lead from the front. "This is the time to lead from the front. You must accept the responsibility both for letting things get to this point as for the recovery," he said. Lashing out at the chief minister, he asked her not to take easy option of hiding behind her spokesperson, as she was elected by the people to represent them. "The @JKNC_ will never be an irresponsible party & opposing you will never mean setting the state on fire for narrow political ends," he added. "More than anyone else I know what you're going through @MehboobaMufti & I can assure you that we will follow your lead but lead YOU must," Omar said, apparently referring to Kashmir unrest during his tenure as Chief Minister in 2010, when over 120 youth were killed in retaliatory action by forces. |
