Ram Madhav does a stand down too | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, July 11: BJP national general secretary, former RSS half-baked ideologue and BJP's pointman on J&K, Ram Madhav, like NC working president and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, Omar Abdullah, has also done a U-turn. However, the context is altogether different. Omar Abdullah had only attacked the Mehbooba Mufti Government, sided with the slain terrorist Burhan Wani and asserted that his killing would produce more Burhans. Omar Abdullah didn't bat for an action against the terrorists. In fact, he opposed the official action against them. Omar Abdullah has now offered his support to the government as far as restoration of peace in the Valley is concerned. It was Ram Madhav who had batted for strong action against the perpetrators of terror acts and declared that the state will act firmly against those working against the state and taking the law of the land into their own hands. On Saturday, Ram Madhav had said: "The government will stand firm, eruption or no eruption…The BJP, both in the state and the Centre, would continue to work for peace and security of the common man in the Valley and create an atmosphere for the development of the state and an uncompromising fight against terrorism is part of it and important". It was clear from his statement that the governments in the state and at the centre will work in tandem to fight out the scourge of terrorism and that their approach would be uncompromising as far as the cult of terrorism was concerned. However, on Sunday, Ram Madhav (obviously under pressure from the PMO, 11 Ashoka Road and RSS or Nagpur) took a completely different line and said use of lethal weapon should be avoided as it caused deaths in the Valley. Terming as "unfortunate and saddening" the loss of lives in clashes in Kashmir over the killing of militant commander Burhan Wani, Ram Madhav said non-lethal ways of tackling such protests should be developed. "Loss of lives in South Kashmir unfortunate and saddening. We have too develop non-lethal ways of tackling such situations. Police too suffer heavily. People in the Valley should help bring normalcy. Restraint and calm should be the motto of people and police. Government wants peaceful and terror-free J&K for progress," he said. The statement of Ram Madhav proved beyond doubt that the BJP-RSS combine was for soft approach towards separatists, terrorists and those who disturb peace in the state. It also indicated that the Sangh Parivar would want the Army, paramilitary forces and J&K police personnel to exercise utmost restraint and get killed at the hands of the unruly mobs in Kashmir instead of liquidating them. This statement of Ram Madhav must have further lowered the moral of our security forces who are involved in anti-insurgency operations and making supreme sacrifices for the cause of the nation in J&K. The need of the nation and the exigency of the time was to give a freehand to the army and paramilitaries to clear the Valley of all terrorists and separatists, but the BJP thought otherwise and thus became an object of contempt. It was no wonder the security experts in the country lambasted the BJP and the BJP-led NDA Government and said there was no difference between what the Congress-led UPA Government did in J&K and what the BJP-led NDA Government had done in J&K after May 2014. As a matter of fact, some strategic affairs experts went to the extent of saying the BJP-led NDA was worse than the Congress-led UPA. There is no doubt that the latest stand of the BJP-led NDA government on the developing situation in Kashmir has further dented the image of the RSS-BJP combine. |
