Jammu, July 11: Adopting anti labour policies, the State Government is carrying out labour reforms without consulting the stakeholders as a result, labour class is being pushed towards exploitation at the hands of employers.
The labour class which is a marginalized section of the society is being pushed to the dark despite the tall claims of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) at center that assuring all kind of help to uplift this lot by the carrying out reforms in Labour Act so that labour class may stand on its feet and can live respectful life in the society.
Shockingly, in Jammu and Kashmir, various departments which are directly related to labour are violating the guidelines by keeping aside the employees unions who are the main stakeholder and who work as felicitators for people working as labour get their rights under law. Sources told Early Times that the Government has not conducted any meeting with employees unions while making reforms as a result no decision has been taken in favour of the labour community so far.
Although Center had asked the State government to make all reforms regarding the wages of labourer , yet authorities did not follow the directions of center and did not touch the issue of wages which demands Rs 10,000 salary for labour working in industries. Similarly the issue of contractual laobur was not settled which envisages that the strength of contractual labour should not be exceeded 50% and rest of the employees should be on regular basis.
The authorities concerned even didn't take the leading employees unions in the state into confidence while making reforms by not calling them in meetings making the mockery of the rights given in the Act to labour community. Moreover, several changes were made in Employees Provident Funds (EPF), Employees State Insurance, which are not in favour of employees working in private sectors on their own and preferred to keep the stake holders away. There are many more issues related to women employees which are pending since long remained unsolved due to apathy of State Government.
