After Independence even, Rajouri still bereft of basic amenities | | | Early Times Report rajouri, July, 12: Inhabitants of border villages in Nowshera tehsil in Rajouri district have been alleging acute shortage of ration at CA&PD outlets, electricity, and safe drinking water and expressed their resentment against worst condition of the roads in their areas. Despite tall claims by the officials of Power Development Corporation (PDD) that the power has been provided in every corner of the district there are three villages and 700 hamlets in the district where the State government has failed to provide power and water facilities since Independence. "Inhabitants comprising more than 50 families of Mohra Kampla and other hamlets in its vicinity situated near Line of Control (LoC) in Nowshera tehsil in Rajouri district have not seen electricity since independence" said Rajinder Singh,ex-serviceman. People of the area told Kuldeep Raj Gupta, vice chairman, Pahari Advisory Board (PAB), who visited the area on Sunday that they are neglected by the district administration as well as by the State government as the area has not been provided with safe drinking water, electricity and good roads since Independence. Mushtaq Ahmed resident of Zinda Pir hamlet said that during Governor Rule the matter was taken up with the higher authorities but despite assurance nothing has been done in this matter and the people are still dependent on traditional methods to light their houses and use contaminated water from only one natural resource (Bowli) in the area. He added in case of acute shortage of drinking water, the local unit of the army has been providing the water through tankers to the people. Another villager, Mohd Farooq said that people now have purchased solar lights as well as electric equipment but they have to travel few kilometers up to Kampla market to charge their gadgets where the electricity is available. They also informed Kuldeep Raj Gupta that only higher secondary school is situated at Nowshera and the students of 11th and 12th classes from these areas daily cover distance between 40-80 kilometers to and fro to attend their classes at higher secondary school at Nowshera. People of the area demanded up-gradation of high school at Lam so that the students may not suffer any more. "In the absence of higher secondary school I received my further education (after 10th) at Rajouri . Had there been higher school in our area we would have studied there and had saved the money" said a girl student Savitri Devi. Kuldeep Raj Gupta said that the people of Lam, Jhangar, Laroka, Qila Darhal, Seiar Makri etc have faced three wars with Pakistan and have made several sacrifices for their motherland including women. "The area has been neglected by the successive government lead by Congress, National Conference. "I will take up people's grievances at appropriate higher platform so that at least they may not be deprived of basic amenities like water, power, roads and education" said Kuldeep Raj Gupta. |
