Locals stage protest as Mendhar town sans 'cleanliness' | | | MS NAZKI Early Times Report Poonch, July 12: Though lakhs of rupees are kept for maintenance of cleanliness by the Government yet no attention is being paid to clear the heaps of filth and garbage due to which the Mendhar town presents a shabby look and forced locals to stage a protest here today. activist of several organization including Beopar Mandal, Mendhar, Youth Club, led by Tata Sumo Union president Kafeel Khan today staged a sit-in against Block Development Officer (BDO) and Assistant Commissioner Poonch allegeing lackadaisical approach towards the beautification of town. Protestors said that Rural Development Department (RDD) has recently floated maintenance contract of the town worth Rs 13 lakh but noting has being done in namwe of cleanliness on ground. Hanuman Mandir general secretary Rahee Kapoor said devotees going to perform their prayers to different religious places are welcomed by foul smell emitting from heaps of garbage in the area. Chairman Mendhar Youth Club Nadeem Khan has urged the Rural Development Department (RDD) Minister to issue directions to maintain cleanliness of the township. Later SDM Mendhar Thakur Sher Singh, BDO Tariq Aziz and SHO pacified the agitating protesters who lifted their protest on their assurances. |
