PDP, BJP fail to put collective face to tackle Kashmir crisis
7/12/2016 11:39:22 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, July 12: As the situation in Kashmir Valley continues to remain grim, PDP and BJP leaders have failed to issue a joint statement to at least show that both the parties share a common ground . Ministers and the legislators of both the parties have maintained silence over the issue and no one seems ready to speak.
The reticence is more from the BJP camp, suggestive of the gained impression yet again that any situation in Kashmir Valley is responsibility of the PDP and anything untoward happens in Jammu, it is BJP's responsibility to tackle it. The collective responsibility factor vital in any coalition government is missing in the PDP-BJP alliance under grim and grave situation which J&K is faced with at present.
Sources said in the meeting today at New Delhi today morning under the chairmanship of Prime Minister there was no representative from the state even though it was exclusively called to discuss the situation in J&K which is on boil for the last four days. There was neither any political representative from the two ruling allies, nor any senior bureaucrat who could have briefed the Centre about the developments that led to current situation as also the measures taken by the government to handle it.
This has given further credence to the speculation that even as BJP is alliance partner with PDP in J&K, there is a huge disconnect between state and centre, sources said. There is no concrete 'political bridge' between the state and Centre, instead a huge gap exists between the two, sources said adding that an impression is gathering credence fast that the two allies in the state do not show tandem in approach and strategy in dealing with difficult situations as both PDP and BJP take it for granted that they are the ruling heads of two regions.
While the Civil Secretariat continues to wear a deserted look, Ministers of the two parties have also maintained distance as no meeting has been held so far at the level of the senior ministers which could have proved therapeutic, sources said. There is no word nor any information as to where the ministers are staying put at present when the situation is showing no signs of improvement and still far from being normal. Meanwhile, three days after volatile situation across the Valley, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti called on the Governor NN Vohra today in which she discussed present scenario in Kashmir Valley. Governor NN Vohra is learnt to have brief the Chief Minister about the outcome of the high level meeting at Centre held today on developments in Kashmir.
