Tehsil Libraries craving for upgradation since Azad regime | | | G S Asgotra Early Times Report Jammu, July 12: The governments had constituted four new districts of Jammu province in 2006, but Tehsil Libraries of these districts have not been upgraded yet. Source in Library and Research Department reveled that in financial years 2006-07 the then Chief Minister Gulam Nabi Azad had constituted four new districts including Samba, Ramban, Reasi and Kisthwar but after lapse of one decade, neither the successive government nor the department concerned has upgraded Tehsil libraries to the level of District libraries. The source further said that as then PDP- Congress government had declared district status to these four tehsils, the respective governmentdepartments (Health, Education and others) have also been upgraded from tehsil upto district level. Ironically it is the only department (Library and Research) has still failed to upgrade these libraries after lapse of 10 years. "The callous approach of the department can be gauged from this fact, since from their establishment, these Tehsil libraries are running in one room accommodation that too, in rented building and the department concerned still failed to develop its own infrastructure for the smooth functioning of these libraries", source said wishing anonymity. As per the source, out of four tehsil libraries, only Samba Tehsil Library has its own building at Old Higher Secondary School Block but the rest of three libraries (Reasi, Kisthwar and Ramban) are running in rented building since many years and the department seems least bother to it. An employee serving SRS Library, Jammu said that since many years, especially the Junior Librarian who are holding Librarian charge have repeatedly apprised to higher rang officials about worst condition of tehsil libraries, but all in vain. |
