Mehbooba appeals for calm in state | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, July 12: Amid the tense situation in the state that has entrapped the valley post Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani's encounter, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday appealed to the people of state and religious groups to maintain calm. The CM said she "felt sad that we couldn't save lives." Mufti said, "When I got news that Burhan Wani has been killed in an encounter, I ordered curfew anticipating protests, so that no life is lost. I appeal everyone to help the government to bring back peace and normalcy in the state." "Security personnel were told to act calmly. It was sad, despite taking all measures, lives were lost during protest. The incidents where security personnel have acted harshly and have used excess force will be investigated," added the CM. After Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani's encounter, at least 22 people have lost their lives due to clashes between security forces and protestors in the valley. |
