Lambardars and Chowkidars union demand enhanced wages

rajouri, July, 12: Lambardars and Chowkidars union under the presidentship of Haji Mohd Azam held a protest demonstration before the office of Tehsildar Rajouri today and demanded enhancement in their wages and other facilities.
Haji Mohd Azam said that during present system of self governance the work load on Chowkidars and Lambardars have increased many fold but when question of facilities arises there is no improvement in this side.
"Chowkidars and Lambardars are getting very small amount on the name of their honorarium while their field of working is very large. Of any death or birth, chowkidar is bound to report at the concerned police station and in most of the cases he /she is spending money from their pockets" said Haji Mohd Azam.
Chowkidars and Lambardars have demanded office in the village and uniforms for them. They also demanded enhancement in their honorariums besides other facilities.
In case the government failed to meet their demands, they will organize large scale protest demonstration in the near future, said the Lambardars and Chowkidars.
In present system of governance and in order to make the institutions of Lambardars and Chowkidars productive and useful, State Cabinet in the month of April has enhanced the honorarium of Lambardars and Chowkidars from Rs 751 to Rs 1501 and Rs 750 to Rs 1500 respectively.
Finance Minister in the 2016-17 budget had made an announcement regarding redefining the roles of Lambardars and Chowkidars in view of the changed scenario coupled with suitable enhancement in their honoraria.
Revenue, Relief & Rehabilitation department was also directed to notify the new enhanced roles and functions of Lambardars and Chowkidars.
