Early Times Report JAMMU, July 13: Mountaineering Association of J&K (MAJK) shall be organising a mountaineering expedition to Matho Kangri Peak in Ladakh Himalaya during August-September. Scheduled to start from August 17, the 20 days expedition, which includes three women climbers also in the 10 member team, shall be led by Everester Ram Singh Slathia. Situated towards the south bank of river, Indus near Leh the 6230 meters (20439ft) high Matho Kangri is a formidable peak which was first climbed by a Japanese team. However, an Indian team also climbed it in 1989. The MAJK plans to unfurl the National Flag on the peak in the first week of September. The Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF), New Delhi, the apex body for climbing activities in the country has already been requested for accord of approval to the expedition and confirm booking of dates, informed general secretary of the Association, Ram Khajuria. The expedition is likely to be sponsored by J&K State Sports Council. |
