| JU has no place for persons of integrity | | | Raj Sandeep

Jammu, July 13: The Jammu University, it seems has no respect for persons of integrity. This is the message conveyed by what academia call suffocating environment in the campus.
Sources informed Early Times that ever since new dispensation came under the control of incumbent Vice Chancellor, well experienced persons of established reputation and impeccable integrity started shunning their official positions soon or later finding themselves uncomfortable to work under suffocating atmosphere. The sources told that university authority has created hostile environment within the campus purportedly to discourage efficient and dedicated workers partly to satiate its liking and disliking and partly to accommodate its favorites on important assignments.
The sources further told that in the beginning, one senior most professor holding an important position preferred to proceed on long leave relinquishing the chair of significant position in Department of College Development Council. They told that instead of filling the vacant position by appointing some senior most available person, the university authority stole the opportunity to adjust its own blue eyed junior most officer to run the affairs of the office having onerous responsibilities without caring a bit to appoint well experienced person of high esteem on that post in the interest of office and others.
They said that another professor of Department of Physics and Electronic, who was holding the assignment of Director Human Resources Development Centre left the position on his request because of controversial working conditions within the institution unleashed by the present administration, they alleged.
Following the suit of earlier two professors, another senior professor in Dogri left the post of Dean Research Studies to keep herself at an arm's length from the present set up of administration creating hindrances while working in the campus.
The sources added that in the recent development, a person of integrity of the rank of professor volunteered to forego the assignment of Director DDE on his request paving way for easy placement for a favourite of university authority. They told that the professor disassociated with his assignment due to averse attitude of the university administration to decimate the functioning of the Distance Education Department by rendering non cooperation in official matters.
Documents in the possession of Early Times reveal that most of the orders of shifting professors holding responsible positions are issued incorporating the word "on his request" which is self explanatory telling the circumstances under which these professors are eased out of their positions by the varsity administration to accommodate its own blue eyed persons which is happening unhindered, although it is within the domain of the authority to do whatever is convenient event at the cost of seniority, competence, experience , rules and regulations, sources added.
The sources said that in the present set up, only a person who meekly honours the dictates of the authority in the campus and behaves like a puppet has every chance to grab good positions irrespective of his administrative experience, seniority and capability of handling official matters and many instances are on record, they alleged.
The sources said set norms, varsity statutes, decisions of highest forms of university carry no meaning to differentiate between right and wrong, a person having a sense of responsibility and accountability would prefer to maintain distance from taking up any such assignment, not because he cannot aptly handle, but for the simple reason that sycophancy and not rationality prevails upon the system in the university presently in vogue. |
