US stand on Kashmir rattles Pakistan | JK's political status | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 13: At a time when all the anti-India forces in and outside India have joined hands to present slain Burhan Wani as Kashmir's hero and Pakistan and Kashmiri separatists, plus "mainstream" Kashmiri leaders like Omar Abdullah, have unleashed a no-holds-barred campaign to tell the international community that the Indian state was using "excessive force" in Kashmir and was "violating the human rights" of Kashmiri Muslims, United States of America (US) has swung solidly behind the bleeding India. Instead of endorsing the Pakistani and Kashmiri separatists' outrageous assertion that what had been happening in Kashmir since last Friday warranted international intervention has overruled the possibility of United States interfering in India's internal matters. "Kashmir is an internal matter of India…All stakeholders should make efforts towards finding a peaceful resolution of tensions in the Valley following the killing of Hizbul Commander Burhan Wani last week," said State Department Spokesman while referring to the recent Kashmir clashes. "We have seen reports of the clashes between protestors and Indian forces in Kashmir and are concerned by the violence. We encourage all sides to make efforts towards finding a peaceful resolution," he further said. The US State Department statement was very significant given the fact that the US had in the past invariably created problems for India by talking about the alleged human rights violations in the Valley, as also by virtually saying that J&K was a disputed region. The fact that the State Department said that "Kashmir is an internal matter of India" must be construed as India's outstanding diplomatic victory and humiliating defeat of the aggressor Pakistan - apart from the vindication of the 70-year-old stand of India that J&K is a settled issue and that the only issue that still required a resolution is the determination of the political status of of POJK and Gilgit-Baltistan, which had been under the illegal occupation of Pakistan since 1947-1948. Besides, the US State Department's statement must be taken to mean a rebuff to those in Kashmir including separatists and the so-called mainstream Kashmiri leaders, who, like Pakistan, had been questioning the presence of India in its own J&K. But what was more significant was that the statement came at a time when the radical Islamists in Kashmir upped the ante against India and tried to exploit the prevailing situation in Kashmir Valley. Now that the State Department has sided with New Delhi and that at a critical juncture, it is time for New Delhi to make optimum use of this statement and expose Pakistan and its Kashmir-based agents across the globe. |
