| CM shows door to tainted Secretary Sports Council | | | ET Impact

Jammu, July 13: Taking cognizance of continued tirade by ET against the irregularities and corrupt practices in J&K State Sports Council, President of the Council and the Chief Minister finally ousted Jawaid Shah from the secretaryship of the Council on Tuesday.
Sources disclosed that CM took serious note of the repeated complaints of misappropriation and misuse of official position by the Secretary and took a call to remove him from the post of Secretary Sports Council. It is pertinent to mention here that the Secretary who had been indicted in a case of financial misappropriation by the State Vigilance Commission had managed to cling on to the chair. Sources also disclosed that though the Minister for Youth Service and Sports Imran Raza Ansari had requested the Chief Minister to relieve Shah, the latter had managed to retain his post owing to his affiliation with the first political family which he used many times to intimidate his adversaries who objected to his misdeeds.
Through a series of reports, ET had brought to the fore in detail, how Jawaid Shah had mishandled huge funds released by centre for development sports infrastructure in the state, failed to start work on the projects of indoor stadia in 12 districts and even failed to complete ongoing infrastructure projects in Jammu.
He was also accused of conniving with unrecognized sports associations to extend undue favours to the undeserving at the cost of genuine sports men of the state. Further, he was accused of shielding and supporting officers of the Council, involved in refreshment scam that marred the Council recently.
Recently, sportsmen of Jammu had burnt his effigy alleging misappropriations and discrimination against sportsmen of Jammu. Reacting to the development, a former member of the Council said, "It is highly satisfying that the Chief Minister has taken cognizance of the resentment brewing amongst the sports fraternity against the Secretary, who had ruined the sports especially in Jammu region due to his biased approach".
Astoundingly, Jawaid Shah had plotted to oust few eminent members of the Council who had stood against his misdeeds. |
