Complete lack of official foresight puts Jammu in a fix | Untimely closure of fourth bridge | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 13: Closure of 4th Tawi bridge by the JKPCC and district administration is an indication of complete lack of official foresight because of which entire Jammu is suffering for the last over a month. Complete breakdown of vehicular traffic on the canal road which is causing great inconvenience to the people and especially to thousands of Amarnath yatris coming to Jammu during the ongoing pilgrimage. "This was the worst time when this crucial bridge could have been closed for vehicular traffic. First of all this was the yatra time and this bridge led the buses and other vehicles carrying pilgrims straight to the Yatri Niwas situated at Bhagwati Nagar; secondly, canal road is mostly marooned during monsoons and no vehicular traffic id possible for hours after every downpour" said Vishal Gupta, a resident of Rajinder nagar. Pertinent to mention here, the authorities closed down the 4th bridge on Tawi, just days before start of Amarnath yatra, without giving any prior information to the public. Many believe, the JKPCC authorities deliberately closed the bridge before the onset of monsoon as the approach road to the bridge which was washed away the previous year faced danger of erosion this year also. "This was ploy of the JKPCC authorities to avoid embarrassment for itself as the officers of the corporation knew that the approach road shall be washed off again" said an insider alleging, "It is surprising how district authorities allowed them to close the bridge despite Amarnath yatra starting within a couple of days after the move". People have meanwhile appealed to the district authorities to ensure resumption of vehicular traffic on the bridge at the earliest to save people from further inconvenience. |
