Despite hype, high level meeting at New Delhi dashes expectations | Peace appeal, restraint remark rhetoric of old K policy... | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 13: Much hyped high level meeting at New Delhi on Kashmir which lasted nearly 4 hours on Tuesday proved to be like any other meeting as it concluded with no concrete statement, given the critical dimension of the situation and circumstances. The meeting announced a day earlier had raised huge expectations not only among the general public but security forces and Police in particular in terms of its outcome. What emerged was rhetoric on peace appeal and restraint call to the para military forces who are bearing the brunt of harsh and belligerent protests. Sources said while the BJP and nationalist organisations watched with keen interest and looked forward to what they expected some 'different' outcome from the meeting under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narender attended among others by the senior Union ministers and top brass of BJP. But there is huge disappointed in many quarters and even within the party circles as nothing concrete came out of the four hour long meeting only except some routine statements on peace appeal to public and opposition, besides an upshot remark, as usual, on appeal to the security forces to maintain restraint while they deal with the situation. The meeting punctured the balloon of expectations and this remark in particular has demoralized the security forces, sources said adding that the expectation was high on some kind of stern warning to the protesters as also to the separatists who are fanning the sentiment among youngsters. Sources further said the belief and hope of outcome from the meeting away from the rhetoric was high for the fact that BJP is in power this time, a party that has always supported a solution oriented action while dealing with such situations in the past in Kashmir Valley. However, nothing of the sort emerged from the high level meeting and a message has gone far and wide that it was more like filling up some void at the level of state government where both the ruling allies remain inert and inactive for three days, no matter for their political consideration as far as PDP is concerned. The meeting at New Delhi filled up that vacuum but the message it gave is loud and clear-that even as the ruling heads have changed with different actors at the helm, the policy remains the same as far as Kashmir is concerned as BJP too seems to be following the same policy. |
