Apathetic attitude: Bad road connectivity greets Sarthal Devi pilgrims

Kishtwar, July 13: The pilgrims enroute to Kishtwar-Sarthal road leading to the famous abode of Shrine of Ashtadash Bujja Matta temple commonly known as Sarthal Devi Matta rued the poor condition of 25 kms road between Hasti and the holy shrine which virtually not only tests the courage of pilgrims but also exposes the callous approach of administration to offer facilities to pilgrims.
The pilgrims added that the condition of the road at many places which is worst adding miseries to the pilgrims. Many of them alleged that the department of Roads and Building is putting the lives of the daily commuters at risk every day.
While talking to "Early Times" the pilgrims who embarked their journey along with Chhari (mace) Mubarak of Matta Sarthal Devi said that the condition of road is very poor and required immediate attention from the government to avoid tragic eventuality on this road.
They said that despite being aware about the commencement of the annual yatra, the government as well as concerned district administration has failed to make necessary repairs of the road so that the pilgrims could feel secured while traveling on this road.
The anguished locals told 'Early Times' that several public deputations from different areas of Sarthal called on District Administration, R&B department, local public representatives and even to concerned minister with the plea for better road connectivity and also for black topping and road widening, but added that they don't pay any heed to their demands.
"Though the authorities, few months ago, had claimed that they would reconstruct or repair the roads, the needful is yet to be done, they alleged.
They said that the department on the name of road widening and upgradation of the road spent crores of rupees without achieving any desired result. Agitated locals also demanded stern action against the non performing officers and also against those responsible for turning this road into dead rubble threatening the lives of poor people traveling on this road daily.
The drivers plying their vehicles on this road also slammed the government and the concern department for their failure in proper maintenance of this vital road.
Meanwhile thousands of devotees today paid their obeisance to revered deity at Sarthal Devi temple and prayed for peace and prosperity. As per official reports over 20000 pilgrims from different parts of state and Kishtwar District visited the temple so far.
Here it needs to mention that Sarthal Devi Management has made free boarding and lodging facility for the pilgrims, while some locals also have accommodated the pilgrims in their homes.
