No yatri from Pahalgam, 1670 leave Baltal for cave shrine, 1.38 lakh pay obeisance | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, July 13: For the second consecutive day, there was no yatri at Nunwan Pahalgam base camp while a fresh batch of 1,670 pilgrims left Baltal early this morning for the cave shrine in South Kashmir Himalayas, where about 1.38 lakh yatris have paid obeisance from July 2. No yatri had arrived at Nunwan Pahalgam base camp for the past three days as all pilgrims are taken directly to Baltal base camp from Jammu for security reason as vehicles carrying pilgrims had to travel through Anantnag which witnessed massive violence in which 15 people were killed and scoreds injured since Saturday. Official sources said authorities do not want to take any chance so the pilgrims are being taken to Baltal base camp for onward journey to the cave shrine. A yatra official said that the weather was pleasant and yatra was going on smoothly from the Baltal track. He said 1,670 pilgrims including, women and Sadhus left Baltal base camp early this morning for the cave shrine. Meanwhile, pilgrims, who had 'darshan' of the self made Ice-Shivlingam yesterday, are on way back to base camp. Though there was no yatra at Nunwan, but the pilgrims, who had night halt at different halting station on the tradional route, including Sheshnag, Mahaguns, Pisso top and Panjterni have also started their onward journey towards the cave shrine early this morning. He said 4455 pilgrims, including women, children and sadhus paid obeisance at the holy Amarnath cave shrine yesterday. With this, a total of about 1.38 lakh yatris had darshan of the self made Ice-Shivlingam at the cave shrine since the commencement of the 48-day-long pilgrimage from July 2. Majority of the pilgrims, who had paid obeisance have returned to their homes. |
