Let the separatists decide first whether Kashmir is a bilateral or triangular issue | Behind the veil | | Early Times Report Jammu,July 16 :-For India and Pakistan Kashmir is a bilateral problem. But for Hurriyat leaders it is trilateral or triangular issue on the plea that the issue cannot be settled without the involvement of the genuine representatives of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. If Hurriyat leaders are for triangular talks do they consider themselves as the genuine representative of people of the state.First of all they have no representation from the regions of Ladakh and Jammu.Secondly they have not been elected by the people to the state Assembly hence they cannot claim to be the genuine representatives of people of Kashmir even. And whenever this question is posed to them a number of Hurriyat leaders claim that they represent the aspirations of people of the vale of Kashmir.Even if their claim is right then what about the regions of Jammu and Ladakh which are part of the state of Jammu and Kashmir ? They are not prepared to answer this question. Have these Hurriyat leaders allowed their wards to join what they call the Jihad for liberation of Kashgmir ? Certainly not. Children of some senior Hurriyat leaders are outside the state. One leader has two son and one daughter. One son is working in Dehli, the other is in Rawalpindi and the daughter is in the Gulf.Hence they are safe from the trouble and turmoil that is being triggered by their parents in Kashmir. For the US and other super powers Kashmir is a bilateral issue and that is why they have, especially Washington, been telling Islamabad and New Delhi to resolve the Kashmir issue. The world powers, including the US,have made it clear that they were not prepared to intervene or mediate in the Kahsmir issue between India and Pakistan.Even the UN has pleaded by resolving the issue through bilateral talks. And surprisingly a legislator has gone on the record inviting the UN for mediation and intervention. It is not for the first time that some separatists have called for a third country mediation or intervention. In fact even Pakistan had supported the idea of securing a third country or the UN intervention and it was in this connection that its representative in the UN had raised the issue pertaining to the killing of Burhan Wani by the security forces. With these divergent stands is it possible for the two to resolve the Kashmir issue and that too when Pakistan is highly possessed by securing Kashmir and India is not prepared to given an inch of the territory. |
