Early Times Report

Jammu, July 16: Taking undue benefits of unnecessarily stopping internet services in Jammu making public and yatris to remain cut off and unaware of the current security scenario in Kashmir, some BJP MLAs have started a campaign of misguiding yatris about suspension of yatra to hide helplessness of the BJP leaders sharing power in the state.
While going through media reports appearing in a section of newspapers, it reveals that two MLAs, Sat Sharma who is also President of State BJP party and Rajesh Gupta visited Shri Amarnath Yatri Bhawan at Bhagwati Nagar the other day to instill moral booster and interact with stranded pilgrims at yatra base camp which turned out to be an exercise of lip sympathy.
On the face of it, the visit of these leaders seems to be simply a ritual, as usual, instructing administration to ensure portable water, health and medical facilities, hygienic environment etc, told an alert yatri Shiv Charan Chauhan of Gujarat held up in Jammu adding that these are few basic facilities temporarily set up as an annual affair which are required to be regularly beefed up by the concerned district administration which is a matter of general routine and does not need reiteration every now and then.
Jangbahadur Singh of Maharashtra while talking to Early Times said that although internet service, which is also one of an imperative facilities for yatris, has been snapped in Jammu being only a peaceful place in the state, yet he is incidentally in constant touch with his other family members left at home who, he said, are keeping him abreast of the developing law and order problem and local disturbances created by few separatists in valley leading to stoppage of yatra from Jammu.
Lambasting these leaders for telling the stranded crowd of yatris that yatra had to be suspended on account of rains and National Highway closure, he said that BJP people are trying to misguide the pilgrims and befooling them to mollify their hurt sentiments for stalling yatra which, he asserted, was due to serious law and order breakdown in valley due to laxity and wrong policies of the government to handle crisis following death of local young man turned militant.
Another local of Jammu Ashwani Singh, who came from Srinagar to Jammu just recently said that National Highway was through all the way from Srinagar to Jammu but the problem is the crisis ridden Kashmir valley which is blocking the smooth flow of traffic on the road and none else as is narrated by BJP leaders to the yatris at base camp which is nothing but plain bluff, he claimed.
A veteran politician wishing not to be quoted said that Amarnath yatris having come from different parts of the country and landed at base camp Jammu are not that naïve and unaware of the current Kashmir crisis prevailing there. Questioning the relevance of the BJP leaders in the present administrative set up , he said that when BJP leaders have already failed at every front to protect the interests of people here in Jammu, why are they attempting to hoodwink yatris who are well read and possess adequate awareness of current events in the state, he alleged.
Surinder Manhas belonging to artists' fraternity said that why the BJP leaders are keeping the yatris of the country in the darkness and befooling them for repeated suspension of yatra. He said that it is just their futile effort to put a cover on their inability and administrative failure to stem and crush the forces spoiling the peaceful atmosphere of the state with Kashmir division now burning in the fire of lawlessness engulfing whole valley due to highhandedness of separatists and their and unchecked bandh calls , madness of stone pesters, stepping up of stone pelting, damaging of public property, attacks on police stations etc.
Instead of giving superficial sermons to stranded yatris in Jammu and rubbing salt on their hurt religious sentiments, Jiwan Dass , who is social worker said that local and BJP leaders at the centre should apply their sagacity of mind, if at all they still possess, to depict their political will and determination to handle Kashmir crisis sternly with full force.
Avoiding to become as puppets in the hands of Kashmiri leaders, BJP leaders should rather generate an atmosphere to take the political flock together to gear up their men and machinery at their command being in the government to restore normalcy in the valley, said a senior citizen of eminence , adding that unless it is done in the right direction, the Amarnath yatris shall continue to be the worst hit due to law and order crisis in Kashmir via which the yatris have to proceed further to Baltal and Pahalgam base camp for paying obeisance to Ice Shivlingam at Baba Amarnath, he opined.
