Udhampur people decry erratic water supply

Udhampur July 15: Due to alleged mismanagement of the PHE department, the water crisis has deepened in various villages and even the main town of Udhampur in the district situated on National highway.
According to reports villages and urban areas are facing acute water shortage, forcing the people to come out on streets and lodge protest against the authorities every now and then.
The locals accuse the department of supplying water arbitrarily. "The employees at PHE supply water as per their discretion, especially to the villages having some political influence," locals alleged and added that the department even is not paying attention towards the repair of existing supply lines where huge leakage is reported.
Some locals Rahul, Amit ,Sahil, Arun and others from Udhampur told to Early Times that majority of people are upset due to erratic water supply as it had affected the day to life of locals. They also said that we have many times complained to concerning authorities about the irregular supply of water but the authorities are just passing the bucks.
While taking to Early Times, Congress Seva Dal leader Ganesh Kumar of Phangial said, "the life of people in our locality is affected due to the erratic water supply but the concerned authorities are in deep slumber. He said that women folk of locality have to cover a lot of distance about 3km to fetch water from conventional water bodies like bowlies.
When contacted AEE-PHE Udhampur said that we have sorted out the problem of water in majority of cases but some area we are facing some technicalities to augment the water supply. He however added that things will settled very soon.
