Major infiltration bid foiled in Poonch, three armed terrorists killed | | | MS Nazki Early Times Report Rajouri, July 16: Army has eliminated three hard core and Pakistan trained terrorists who made an unsuccessful attempt to enter the Indian side from Loonawali area in Sawjian sector in Poonch district on the intervening night of July 16/17. Sources said, "One among them is about 40 years old having long beard and possibly their leader while other two were of about 25 year age." They said that the operation continued for more than 36 hours after the attempt was made by the terrorists who made an attempt to enter the Indian soil from Halan /forward Kahutta areas in POK through Zabila Nala. Sources added that Army has recovered three AK rifles, 11 magazines of AK rifle, 240 AK rounds, cooked food and other war like store including food items and medicines from the possession of the slain militants. Meanwhile Identity of the terrorists and their outfit yet has not been ascertained till the filing of this report. Meanwhile Defence spokesperson Lt Colonel Manish Mehta said, "The alert and vigilant troops spotted and traced the movement of militants through precise surveillance along the LoC in Sawjian sector of Poonch district." In his statement issued today he said, "the troops kept a close watch on their movement and tightened the cordon. "The area was kept under continued surveillance." "A massive search operation was launched for 36 hours during which no escape route was left for the militants," Mehta said, adding, "during the operation, militants fired on the army troops which was retaliated by the own troops, triggering an encounter. In the ensuing firefight, three heavily armed militants were killed, he said, adding, "the combing operation in the area is on." "It was a flawless surgical operation executed by the army to foil infiltration attempt," Mehta added. Here it needs to mention that the alert troops had also foiled an infiltration attempt from this area and had killed three terrorists in the month of December last year. |
