Work stopped after intervention by CM's office | Transportation of construction material in Gandola | | ET Impact
Early Times Report
Srinagar, July 25: The illegal ferrying of construction material to Kongdoori, Gulmarg, in Gandola (cable car) is said to have been stopped by the J&K Cable Car Corporation (CCC) authorities as the Chief Minister's Office is said to have taken this matter very seriously. The construction work at the construction site is also said to have been stopped. The CCC, which looks after Gumlarg Gandola operations was earlier busy with carrying all the construction material to Kongdoori using Gandola cable car to transport this material. Early Times had filed a detailed report on this alleged illegal practice a few days back. In addition to it, sources said that development work of a park at Kongdoori was allotted to a blue-eyed person without inviting tenders and against the High Court orders. Pertinent to mention that work on construction and development of public park began at Kongdoori Gulmarg almost two weeks back. The CCC, bypassing all the codal formalities, had allotted the work to a man who owns a restaurant at Kongdoori. It is alleged that for the last one week contractor was using Gandola to ferry the construction material like sand and cement to Kongdoori. The CCC GM was fully cooperating with the contractor in this illegal work, sources alleged. The Jammu and Kashmir High court had last year banned all constructions in famous ski resort of Gulmarg and directed the state government to transfer a Gulmarg development authority official for failing to check illegal activities. A division bench comprising Justices M H Attar and Ali Mohammad Magrey directed the authorities to ensure that all construction activities in Gulmarg be stopped and vehicles carrying construction material to the resort be seized. The court order banning construction and transportation of construction material came following reports of large scale illegal construction in the garb of minor repairs and without proper permission from the authorities. "Deputy Commissioner as also Senior Superintendent of Police Baramulla and Gulmarg Development Authority (GDA) shall forthwith enforce the above direction and ensure no construction activity is undertaken at Gulmarg till further orders from the court," reads the high court order. The court order came in the wake of serious allegations made in a report which prima facie indicated grave irregularities committed in allowing the people to renovate and repair their structures. In-spite of the high court order construction work was going on in Gulmarg at many places along with Kongdoori which is an environmentally fragile zone. But after CM office's intervention and Early Times report, the said illegal construction is said to have been stopped by the authorities concerned. |
