Omar wants solution based on majority will | Time for Jammu, Ladakh to stand up | | Early Times Report jammu, July 25: NC working president and Leader of Opposition in J&K Legislative Assembly is in his true colours. He is for a solution to the so-called Kashmir issue that is acceptable to the majority of people. In other words, he is for a solution that is acceptable to majority community (read Muslims) in J&K. "Talks should be held with the people from all opinions, all the stakeholders should be brought into the ambit of dialogue and a solution, which is acceptable to majority of the people, should be found. This is what we said (to Home Minister Rajnath Singh during our meeting with him) and we hope, Singh will ponder over," said Omar Abdullah while talking to reporters after the NC delegation met with the Union Home Minister in Srinagar on Sunday. What he said was what MA Jinnah of Muslim League used to say before the establishment of Pakistan. There is no difference. His solution, if accepted and implemented, would mean three things. One, another communal partition of India and disintegration of the country. Two, migration of non-Muslims from the state to other parts of the country. Three, destruction of the non-Muslim minorities like it happened in Pakistan and East Pakistan, now called a sovereign Bangladesh. The non-Muslims in J&K are not really a minority; they constitute more than 40 per cent of the state's population and also occupy more than 80 per cent of the state's land area. Their number is no less then 50 lakh in state of about 1.2 crore (figures questionable). If free and fair census exercise is undertaken in J&K, it would not be surprising if the population of the non-Muslims in the state turn out to be equal to Kashmiri Muslims, if not more. Omar Abdullah says bring all stakeholders in the ambit of dialogue and solution. No problem. The people of J&K are not the only stakeholders in the state; the Indian nation is the most crucial stakeholder in J&K, as J&K is part of India and it became part of India not because of Article 370 (October 1949) but because of the Instrument of Accession (October 26, 1947). The accession of the state was final, irrevocable and non-negotiable as per Article 1 of the Indian Constitution, which defines the boundary of the Indian State, as also as per section 3 of the J&K Constitution, which says J&K is a integral part of India and will remain so. So, Indian nation as a whole is the stakeholder in the state. Let the Government of India hold talks with all to find what the majority of people in the country wants? This is the way. You cannot impose the sinister will of the Kashmiri leadership and its constituency on the unwilling and patriotic people of Jammu and Ladakh as well as internally-displaced Kashmiri Hindus. It is hoped that the Modi Government will reject with contempt the divisive and communal suggestion of Omar Abdullah and others of his ilk in Kashmir. |
