| Police tightens noose against drug peddlers, 3 held in two days with drugs | | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, July 25: After mounting pressure from the civil society and family members of drug users and alleged increase in the activities and presence of drug peddlers in various parts of Rajouri district, police have launched a crackdown again peddlers/ users and had apprehended three notorious drug peddlers within last 48 hrs. According to police, following inputs from his reliable sources, inspector Chaman Gorkha, SHO Rajouri laid a special Naka on Rajouri-Kotdhara road and apprehended a drug peddler along with consignment of drugs.
"The accused has been identified as Abdul Hamid S/o Nissar Ahmed of Jamola presently residing in Ward -4 of Rajouri town, police said, adding, " The police team has recovered 47-Proxivon capsules, 100-Termodal tablets and 18 grams of 'smack' from his possession. A case under FIR No.489/16 u/s 8/21/22 NDPS Act stands registered against accused.
"During last few years many drug peddlers were arrested by the Rajouri police and have recovered large quantity of drugs of various types, But till today barring arrested drug peddlers no supplier /kingpin of drugs was arrested by the police despite their names were disclosed by the small fishes in the network" said a social activist. He however questioned whether police is really unaware of kingpins or don't take action against them on alleged huge money consideration.
Vibodh Gupta, MLC during recent Public-Administration meeting held at PWD Guest House has raised his apprehension on this matter and requested Deputy Commissioner and SSP to look into the matter.
Here it needs to mention that within 48 hrs police under the supervision of Deputy SP (Operations) who also is Nodal officer have apprehended three notorious drug peddlers from Rajouri and its adjoin areas and have recovered a large consignment of smack ( smack is a synonym of heroin), intoxicant capsules and unidentified liquid drug.
On Sunday police have apprehended two active drug peddlers from within a limit of Rajouri Municipality and have recovered consignment of drugs from their possession.
"One of drug peddler namely Arfaz Bukhari @ Chottu Shah a son of a retired Revenue Officer was in the hit list of Rajouri police.
He was intercepted when travelling in a car bearing registration No.JK11B-0242 on Rajouri BGSB University road and police recovered 1-litre white liquid drug (Unidentified), 170-Pravon capsules & 4-pices of silver paper pasted with Smack."
Later police again laid a naka on Government PG College Road and apprehended another drug peddlers identified as Atther Mirza s/o Koib-ul-Hassan resident of Ujhan (Darhal Tehsil) alongwith 05 gms of Heroin.
After legal formalities Chottu & Atther were booked in case FIRs Nos. 483 & 484 respectively. |
