Illegal fishing continues in Basantar | | | Neeraj Badyal Early Times Report Samba, Sept 8: The people of Samba and outside the state openly catching the fishing from Basantar river without valid licence. The the concerned department is in deep slumber and nothing stern action has been taken against the people who catch fish in Basantar river. People said that the concerned department has failed to crackdown on the people involved in illegal fishing. Locals said that the use of chemicals for killing fish was causing extensive damage to the ecology and water bodies. According to locals, the fish are being caught illegally in the Basantar river at several locations. Some persons in nexus with the employees are allegedly using hazardous chemicals to kill the fish. Since the past few weeks illegal fishing continues unabated in the river Basantar area and a group of people with the support of employees are killing the fish in river Basantar said, Harsh Sharma ,a local. It is fact that illegal fishing has increased and the department has proved totally failed to take strict action against the involved," he said. This practice kills many small fish as well, he said. "The provincial fisheries department should take strict action to save the fish. More barbaric methods are also used in the river, he alleged . |
