SRINAGAR, Sept 8:Doctors across Kashmir have been working day and night amid unrest but the hospitals in Srinagar especially SMHS hospital has become a hub of illegal activities where miscreants harass the staff during the night hours.
The doctors have been getting appreciation from the government for having worked tirelessly for the last two months.
But sources said the staff members' especially female members often complain harassment by some people.
"Whenever there is an emergency case, we have to hear abuses and harassment from the furious attendants. We usually don't respond to them but at times there are incidents when a doctor or other medical staff is assaulted by the attendants and injured him," said a medico.
Due to the repeated 'assaults', the doctors over the years have been demanding adequate security cover for the hospitals.
They say some people in inebriated condition come to the SMHS hospital, LD hospital and Bone and Joint Hospital during the night hours and tease female doctors.
"The female doctors who are on night duty feel insecure here due to lack of security. Some people pass lewd remarks at the female doctors and teasing them during the night hours," a medico said at SMHS hospital said.
According to senior faculty member of GMC Srinagar such incidents are not confined to SMHS hospital but in other hospitals too.
They said it has become a nuisance for the medicos to perform their duties at the SMHS and Bone and Joint hospital, where they are continuously being assaulted by visitors due to lack of security. According to medicos, such incidents routinely take place and they sometime feel threat to their lives due to lack of security.
