Early Times Report jammu, Sept 8: The SHO of a police station, which falls under the jurisdiction of police headquarters here, is alleged to have struck a deal of Rs 3 lakh with the accused by misuing police powers, and taken the lion's share. It so happened that a youth was caught from the house of woman a few days back. After the incident became a topic of discussion, the SHO took note of the matter. However, instead of taking an action, he struck a deal of Rs 1 lakh with the accused with the help of a mediator, police sources alleged. The woman was given Rs 25,000 to keep her mouth shut while the SHO himself allegedly 'gobbled up' half of the amount. Rest of the money was taken by the mediator, sources alleged. The matter, however, worsened a few days later when the accused set the woman's house on fire. The matter again reached the police station. Sources alleged that two mediators this time approached the SHO and discussed the matter with him. Following his consent, they set out on the work of striking a deal with the accused. An amount of Rs 3 lakh was this time allegedly extracted from the accused. The woman was again given a few thousand rupees while most of the money was allegedly pocketed by the SHO. The mediators got gold ornaments and cash as a reward for striking the deal, sources alleged. Sources alleged that the accused was so much harassed by police that at one point of time he had even made an attempt to end his life. He was, however, saved by the timely action of his family members. Sources alleged that the SHO minted lakhs overnight by misusing police powers. |
