jammu, Sept 8: Dogri is the language of Dogras of Jammu, but it has been subjected to discriminatory treatment in its home. Shockingly, a professor of Hindi department is allowed to head the department of Dogri in Jammu University.
Sources informed Early Times that many stakeholders belonging to different parts of Jammu division have put in their heart and soul for recognition of Dogri language which finally paved way for its incorporation in the Eighth Schedule of Indian Constitution and brought it at par with other regional languages.
Besides, various NGOs and government organization like Dogra Sanstha, Nami Dogri Santha ,J&K Academy of Art Culture and Languages etc have been instrumental for uplifting the Dogri language and still endeavouring hard for its further promotion and development.
Sources said told that in order to give further fillip to Dogri language, the JU's department of Dogri was opened to provide platform for research work and higher education to students interested in Dogri language and do specialization in the line for widening the scope of this language to be taught at the college and school levels.
The department of Dogri has seen achieved many milestones during the headship of stalwart professors like Champa Sharma, Veena Gupta, Shashi Pathania, while Prof Archna Kesar and Prof Shiv Dev Singh continued to support and promote Dogri language with their painstaking and backbreaking efforts till they headed the department.
An invitation card issued by department of Dogri available with Early Times reveals that Prof Parmeshwari Sharma belonging to the department of Hindi is heading the Dogri department. It speaks volumes about the casual approach towards Dogri language adopted by university administration led by a Dogra himself. "He is expected to do much more and not to mar the growth of Dogri language," sources said.
They said that despite availability of professors in the Department of Dogri, who are well qualified, competent and adequately conversant with Dogri language, the university administration, cutting to size and sidelining all of them, has knowingly put the expert of Hindi language as head of Dogri Department on the heads of senior faculty members available there which is great disservice to Dogras and Dogri language.
Sources further said that it is the unique style of running the administrative affairs of the varsity by incumbent Vice Chancellor who is often prompted by his likes and dislikes instead of giving preference to honesty, competence, experience and above all unblemished service record of the people. |
